#3 Bor Lenarčič will be defending the pond in 2022

GH: You started your 2021 season great as you scored your first pick-6 at the Errea Bowl and took home the Defense MVP title. How did it feel?

The start of the season was really very promising, Errea Bowl was, as far as my individual performances are concerned, the highlight of the season. Being the MVP of defense on my first international tournament at home is a great way forward, but sleeping on old laurels always brings only disappointment in the future, so I pay more attention to my shortcomings in the game.

GH: According to the number of intercepted passes in Ljubljana Frogs, you are in third place, with nine intercepted passes. Can we expect to be named the best “interceptor” in the franchise in 2022?

In the 2022 season, my goal is to become a better player in defense, above all, I would like to improve the mental part of the game itself. I think this is the most I can do to help the team to an even better defense. However, if this leads to additional interceptions, this will only be an added plus. I do not emphasize individual statistics, it is important to me that the team as a whole wins, even if I do not play a minute.

GH: In the first match against Jazbec in Kranjska gora, you suffered a serious injury that took you away from the greens. How did the rehabilitation go and how did it affect your self-esteem during the season?

That injury was really one moment of an accident that unfortunately interrupted my season. Our physiotherapist's first assessment of returning to the field was: "playoff if you're lucky." Given this prediction, the rehabilitation has been very successful as I have been back for the last two games in the regular season. At this point, I would like to thank Alex Valant once again for his excellent help in rehabilitation. As for self-confidence, the injury was known mainly because I wasn’t at 100% and I knew I couldn’t help the team to the best of my ability.

GH: Because of that injury, you watched the second game against the Badgers from the bench. How did you feel on the last attempt of the Badgers for the middle, did you believe in the victory of your teammates?

Unfortunately, I was really forced to miss that amazing match. On that last attempt, I was as nervous as everyone else, but I completely trusted the team because they had that right energy and atmosphere throughout the tournament, so the result couldn’t be missed.

GH: When you played under coach Makuc, you always showed good performances. How big was the difference in the period when coach Makuc was not present and after he returned to the helm of the team towards the end of the season?

I have gotten along very well with coach Makuc from the very beginning, so it is a great pleasure for me to play under his leadership. The team always needs a coach at the helm who takes care of order and discipline, which we missed the most in that intervening period. We have enough talent in the team to beat anyone. Of course, talent alone is not enough, we need a coach to guide us. I am very happy that coach Makuc is back and filled the huge gap he left behind before.
