#8 Žan Luka Cegnar will be defending the pond in 2022

The interviews were made by the support of Enaa and Lenovo.

GH: In the 2022 season, you’ll be switching your present # 28 for the new # 8 number. Why accomplishes this change, this number, have any special meaning for you?

I wanted it already in the 2021 season, but at that time, one of the rookies (Jan Fink) overtook me, and I noticed I am out of the game for the number. # 8 is my favourite number. I like that if we place it horizontally, you get the infinity sign, and in my opinion, it never means I’m infinite then / infinite.

GH: Last year, you were a newcomer to the Frogs team and Aleks Bordon. How long did it take you to get used to the sport, your teammates and the whole dynamics of flag football? What caused you a lot of headaches?

I would say that it was a little easier for me personally at the beginning because I already knew a couple of things here and there. After all, I was with the Domžale Tiger tackle team for about half a season. However, it took me about a couple of months to get better at the sport; the only thing that caused a few problems was that I had never sprinted as much before as I do now.

GH: Tall blitz players like you are an indispensable part of the game for the team. You proved it yourself against the Knights, where you made a pivotal contribution to the high victory by obstructing the opposing QB. What were your feelings after the mentioned words, and what did you take away from this meeting?

The feelings were extraordinary at the time, and it was all in my head. Now I know how blitz works. As we have already talked with the coach, not everything is in the sack. An excellent example in this game was when I caused an interception, and I felt phenomenal. I learned a lot from this meeting, and I am very grateful.

GH: He and his Blitzer colleague, Blaž Hrušovar, were a real “dynamic duo” and sowed fear among opposing pitchers. What will the absence of Hrušovar next season mean for you and your game?

I was shocked and disappointed to hear he wasn’t going to play anymore. We had excellent communication; we always planned what and how we looked at each other and what to fix or change direction. But it is also true that now that I have more options to show what I am capable of, I hope that someone else will join me in the Blitz position if we do not grit our teeth and give 150% in each match.

GH: At the age of 20, he is considered to have great potential in his position from a very early age. Does this represent an obstacle, additional pressure or motivation for you to join a team that would travel more to the 2028 Olympics?

Sometimes it gave me extra pressure, especially last season, but this year is a better motivation than anything else.
