#87 Gašper Bajt will be defending the pond in 2022
GH: You also come from the city rivals, Ljubljana Killer bees. You faced Ljubljana Frogs for the first time at the tournament in Vransko. What were your first feelings?
She was definitely still a stranger, I recognized a few players, but I was more interested in how they played as a team. And I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. As in any other, I went into the match with respect for the opponent and a desire to win.
GH: You will play in the position of a passer for whom coach Makuc believes that you still have enough enthusiasm and can contribute to the team. What are your goals and view of a situation where you are surrounded by as many as 17 teammates?
Thank you; above all, I want to justify the trust shown to me by the coach and management of the team and the players by inviting me to the team. There are a lot of players, and the guys are well prepared, which means that I have to get to know their qualities and recognize and accept their way of playing. I don't think it will be difficult with such a team as the guys are highly motivated and ready to work. Despite the introduction to a new way of working and getting to know each other, I believe that with hard work, we will achieve high results this year, and the primary goal is to catch up and have fun in addition to labour.
GH: You didn't play last season. Did you follow the SFFL? Are you looking forward to stepping back on the grass and passing for your first TD in a new jersey? Is there any specific team you would like to do against?
True, since the situation with Covid-19 started, I have distanced myself a bit, as I have not yet been able to comprehensively analyze the situation. I watched SFFL from time to time, but not very often, as I had a lot of challenges in my personal life. I can't wait to achieve TD and eventual victory with the new team! Whenever I play for any team, I do my best. Like I played the flag football for SH, KB, and now Frogs, I will always do my best (110%) because the guys who trust me on the field try not to earn anything less. No matter which team we play against, I always go to the game respectfully and with a strong desire to win, so no, there is no specific team I would play against, but after a long time, I would like to see guys from other clubs again, because we became friends with some and we share many a fun experience.
GH: You're a veteran of the sport because you've been involved for quite a few years. How do you see the progress of sports, players, leagues, and organizations from the moment you first stepped on the field?
Flag football has recently made significant progress, especially in the organization of both clubs and the league itself. If I remember correctly, Marko Novak and his team took over the presidency of the SFFL league and then, with statistics, organization, rules, illustrations, training of referees/players... He took the SFFL league to a much higher level. Most clubs have risen organizationally and have organized pieces of exercise 2-4 times a week, participate in several international tournaments in the season, organize individual local games…, in short, to sum up, I am highly pleased with the development of sports in the right direction, despite the trials, which life sets for us (Covid-19, service….). Of course, most of the work is done voluntarily, so boys and many girls, hats off…
GH: You will wear the number # 87. Is this the number to which you are bound by any unique matter? Are you more like Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, who swapped their longtime clubs for a new environment in which they could win a new title?
The numbers don't mean much to me personally in terms of symbolism. The # 87 number is worn by former New England Patriots player and, most recently, Buccaneers player Rob Gronkowski, who caught my eye the most at the start of the NFL. A defensive player flew into his knee on a standing leg during a full sprint during the whole sprint. If the situation were reversed, I would be looking for a knee among the audience in the stands (hahaha). While he was on the field with a miracle of medicine in 14 days. This shows his hard work in rehabilitation and belonging (desire to help) to the team. Later, a good friend gave me his jersey for my birthday, so the affiliation no. # 87 started.
I honestly don't know whether or not we will win the title this year, I honestly don't know, as I still have some unknowns (as mentioned, I still have a lot of work to do). However, I can guarantee that I will do everything to win the title of champion.
