Frogs surprised the SFFL and the Badgers and win the last game of the tournament

The last match of the regular season of the Slovenian Flag Football League was played against Kranjski Jazbeci. If the Jazbeci "ran over" us in the first match and hoped that this match would be the same, many people, including us, could not be more wrong. Although Jazbeci arrived with only nine players and absent leading players (Kranjec, Zelnik, Filipovič, Koncilja), they defeated the Knights in a previous game, proving that they are counting on the first season without defeat.

What a match we witnessed. We started on the offense and quickly got into the opponent's end zone, and Jazebci responded quickly through Lebar and his receivers. All the spectators knew that inches and conversions after touchdowns would affect the course of the match, and the competitive tensions were felt in the atmosphere. After a defensive penalty, Lebar found the receiver Grošelj in the end zone and the scoreboard showed Jazbeci lead 6:8. We exchanged the lead until the end of the match, all they way until the last 30 seconds, when the Badgers had ball in their possession. We were only three points ahead, and Lebar had a fourth attempt in his hands. The ball flew to Šilar, when our captain of defence, Aljoša Kous, found himself in the right place and prevented the ball from falling into the hands of the Jazbezi receiver. So possession of the ball was transferred to our side, but because the Badgers took advantage of one time out, there was no more hope for the first undefeated season. We have recorded only two defeats this season against both of the serial national champions, which is an outstanding result for a team that has only been around for less than two years. If we finished last season in 5th place, with the outcome of eight wins and eight defeats, this year we have advanced to ten wins, and only two losses.

The duel of two QBs ended in favour of our young hope Darko Mićić, who passed for six touchdowns in this match, had one conversion for one point and one conversion for two points. It is also an impressive fact that compared to the first match (4 intercepted passes), he had no intercepted pass and no sack in this game, while Lebar threw one intercepted pass and was sacked twice.

All of our receivers have entered the statistics with at least one touchdown. Aleks Bordon caught one, RJ Williamson had touchdown with a two-point conversion, Klemen Repnik caught the ball on his five yards and ran the entire field, eluding just about every defensive player to score and offense captain, Žan Ocvirk, registered a touchdown and a one-point conversion.
Luc Semprimožnik had the most touchdowns in this match, with two touchdowns received and an impressive total of 9 in the entire tournament.

In defence, we played very compactly. The most significant influence on the course of the match were definitely the blitzers, Blaž Hrušovar, who managed to sack Lebar twice and thus sack every quarterback in the SFFL and Žan Luka Cegnar, who did not record a statistical aspect this match, but disturbed the opponent's QB with his long arms.
Defence captain Kous had seven tackles on the front line and proved how he can interfere with anyone's offense when he plays his primary position. Žan Ocvirk recorded four tackles, Žiga Strgar, RJ Williamson and Darko Mićić each scored two tackles, while #4 Dejan Godec recorded one tackle. 18 tackles, two sacks and an intercepted pass were enough to emerge from this game as winners.

"Despite the absence of some players at Jazbeci, we knew that a difficult match awaited us. We managed to dismiss the debacle from the first game, made some corrections both in attack and defence and it paid off. The defence successfully "cut off" the best players of Jazbeci, Štern and Grošelj, and the blitz successfully put pressure on their passer. The offense also started and continued sovereignly, unlike the first match. We took turns in the lead throughout the match, but in the end, we managed to get our first victory against Jazbeci and hand them their only defeat this season," said coach Aleš Makuc.

This promises an even more exciting fight for the title, for which it was considered that Jazbeci will win the title of national champions for the third year in a row.
