Week 3 of the SFFL brings nice matchups for Frogs

FROGS 5-1 vs Tigers Black 1-5

The first match of tomorrow's tournament of the Slovenian Flag Football League will be played against the young team of Domžale Tigers Črni. This year’s season of the contact version of American football is over, and the young Tigers are gaining experience in the first SFFL season. Žan Mrzlikar, the youngest passer in the league, already has quite a bit of experience, as he played as a QB for the Tigers Orange two seasons ago. Črt Lapanje, Jošt Kovač and Matic Kramberger also made their first flag football steps in the same team.

Črt Lapanje enters the third tournament as the MVP of the second round, in which he scored 12 touchdowns in three matches, which is more than impressive. The quick young man is, in our opinion, the best route runner in the league, so Merlin is watching him closely to stop him in the first match of tomorrow's tournament. On the opposite side in the defense, Jošt Kovač is the main guy, who recorded three intercepted passes in the previous round, and has already recorded a total of 29 points and 4 intercepted passes, which is a very good result. If we follow the brilliant Lapanje in the attack, we will have to watch out for Kovač in defense.

This will also be a duel of two MVPs: on our side, the first round MVP title was given to passer Darko Mićić, who quickly realized that bad matches could drive him out of the fight for MVP of the season. In the third tournament, the Tigers Black are waiting for him, who are stepping up their game every week, so the task will not be easy.

After the injury of Bor Lenarčič, #15 RJ Williamson, an American who always shows dominant performances in our team, will step into his shoes. Our best defensive player will have a difficult task, as it will be necessary to watch out for the fast youngsters from Domžale, especially because Mrzlikar has a strong and accurate hand, which can cause quite a few headaches for our defense.

FROGS 5-1 vs Killer bees 3-3

In the second match, we will face local rivals Killer bees. In the first game of this season, we have already beat them with a score 32-8, and we are entering the second part of the season, where it will be necessary to step on the gas and beat opponents in second matches to avoid the wild card. The Killer Bees won both games last season, one of them at the green table. The battle for Ljubljana Castle continues tomorrow.

Last year's league MVP Gregor Hertl did not score any touchdown in the first game, but he recorded an intercepted pass and quite a few tackles. In the previous match, Hertl also had some health issues, so we believe he will return his game to the desired level and compete for the best catcher of the season. In defense, Merlin will watch out for Alen Alidžanović, who is their best flag puller with 23 points. The player has already switched three clubs in his third season in the SFFL, and he is more than obviously doing well in his new team.

Our catcher, Aleks Bordon, caught the rhythm with the QB Mićić precisely against the Killerbees, against whom he scored two touchdowns. He would have also scored the third if the referees had not thrown the yellow flag for a scramble in the end zone. The newcomer in our team quickly got used to the new sport and we believe he will progress more with each match. If the Killer bees are the team that fit him, we'll see tomorrow.

# 32 Blaž Hrušovar is a blitzer who has already upgraded his last season. In six matches, he pulled out the flag of the opposing QBs four times, and is chasing the last two passers in the league, Marko Novak and Nejc Lebar. Tomorrow, he already has a chance to show off his quick legs and pressing on the Killer Bees QB. If he succeeds in this achievement, he will hold a new record and as the first Frog ever, he will become the player who managed to sack every QB in the season.

FROGS 5-1 vs Knights 4-2

The Knights played a derby against Kranjski Jazbeci in the previous round, but they lost it in the last seconds, when the passer Travnikar threw an intercepted pass to his former teammate Kolenc, who returned it to the opponent's final zone and got a 41-39 victory for his new team. Travnikar and his teammates will definitely not enter our match too casually, as they will fight to win at any cost. If there was no Štravs in the previous round and it was a handicap for them, we don't believe it will be like that tomorrow. Vavžik, who suffered an unpredictable injury in our match, is also returning, so the desire will be even greater.

Davorin Štravs scored 5 touchdowns and 4 point after conversions in three matches of the previous round. He will definitely pose a threat to our defense as he makes use of the space with his height and prevents the defensive players from reaching the ball in front of him. Denis Puglej is third in the number of received touchdowns and second in the number of flags  pulled. He has already pulled 32 flags, seven of which were against us. With game-reading skills, he is often in the right place at the right time, and we believe that will be the case tomorrow as well.

In the first match, Žan Ocvirk scored 2 touchdowns and 3 PA conversions for one point and one conversion for 2 points. If he has fast legs and hot hands in tomorrow's match as well, it will definitely be a difficult task for Knights' defence.
Blitzer Žan Luka Cegnar also played a big role in the first match, but all eyes will be on Žiga Strgar, who will fight for the best flag puller in the league this season, and has already scored 28 points. With Štravs in the game, we are expecting several shorter passes, which Strgar will have to pick up if he wants to stay in contention.
