Enaa Ljubljana Frogs Conclude Their Five-Year Journey in the Slovenian Flag Football League

PRESS RELEASE:

Ljubljana, October 2024 — After five competitive seasons in the Slovenian Flag Football League (SFFL), the Enaa Ljubljana Frogs have announced their departure from the league. Throughout this period, the team has embodied resilience, talent, and a passion for flag football, solidifying its legacy in Slovenian sports.

Since their formation, the Frogs have seen 41 players come through their ranks, competing in 75 games and maintaining a solid average win percentage of 0.5438. Over the years, they made significant strides, reaching a league final and finishing second in their third season, despite undergoing the biggest player turnover in their history.

Key Statistics:

  • Total Games Played: 75
  • Total Points Scored: 1,924
  • Total Points Allowed: 2,296
  • Total Touchdowns Scored: 348
  • Total Interceptions: 119
  • Total Sacks: 54
  • Total Tackles: 1,314

Despite their success, the Frogs have faced increasing difficulties in maintaining regular training sessions due to the personal priorities of their players. "Flag football is rising like a meteor, but you can’t live your Olympic dreams with just one practice session a month," said head coach Aleš Zakšek. This challenge has led the Frogs to shift focus and step away from regular league competition.

The Road Ahead

Although stepping back from the SFFL, the Enaa Ljubljana Frogs are far from disappearing. Instead, they will focus on international tournaments across Europe, to offer Slovenian players valuable international experience. The Frogs will participate in 7 international tournaments, with 12 players per roster, and will cover over 10,000 kilometres of travel.

Andrea DiLeo, the president of the board and co-owner of GEARXPro, a long-standing sponsor of the team, expressed his support for this new direction. "Enaa Ljubljana Frogs is a big and strong brand in Europe and beyond. It would be a shame not to be part of this great community, but I think it's a great idea to play European tournaments."

The Frogs will also serve as an extended arm of the Slovenian national flag football team, helping players gain crucial international experience to compete at the highest level.

Ivan Mikulus, the president of the club, added that this new focus on international tournaments will allow the Frogs to continue pushing the boundaries of Slovenian flag football and strengthen their reputation across Europe.
